I knew when I bought this that magnesium in the oxide form was poorly absorbed and mostly had a laxative effect, which is what I was looking for. So this product makes an excellent laxative & a poor source of magnesium, but if you know that going in to it then it's exactly what you'll want.

At the end of the day, if I haven't taken my fiber, then I take one of these to help make sure that I have a bowel movement in the AM. I try not to rely on it, but sometimes I know that I need it. Loosens the stool. Be prepared ahead of time and near a latrine when you wake up in the morning!
